Some years ago, providing Internet access for as many people as possible was a major concern in Estonia. Over the past 10 years, Estonia has since been on the forefront in providing such universal access, through projects such as “Look@World” and the creation of Public Internet Access Points.
Today, the discussion has turned wireless. The focus now is on the provision of Internet access anywhere, anytime and all the time. But how far are we from reaching this goal? Will wired Internet access become obsolete in light of the developments with wireless technologies? Will the Internet go completely mobile, or will existing mobile solutions win out in providing access to the Internet and similar content? To address these and other questions, the e-Governance Academy has organised a conference entitled, “The Policy of Broadband Wireless Access Technologies.” This event will take place on Monday April 24th, in Sokos Hotel Viru, in the centre of Tallinn. Prominent international and local speakers will cover topics such as
• What are the roles of WiMAX as a technology, and how does it work? What other technologies are available?
• What roles can wireless Internet access technologies play in Estonia? How do these technologies relate to current and future initiatives?
• How can wireless Internet access be used in practice, and are there best practices to be identified?
• What about regulation?
In line with the mission of the e-Governance Academy, the conference will provideapplicable knowledge that can be used when setting policy and making strategic decisions, and will help you understand the issue and put it into context.
We kindly invite you to attend this event, and count on your presence to address the issues of the conference that will soon face Estonia!
Mr. Ivar Tallo, Arvo Ott
PS. attendance to this conference is free; no prior knowledge of wireless technology is required.
