Data security in public Wi-Fi networks.

In a world where every interaction moves online, protecting your information in public spaces matters more than ever. Part of our daily communication flows through public Wi-Fi networks in libraries, hospitals, cafés, hotels, and other communal venues.

Those networks must stay secure and comply with the national public network standard. WiFi.ee has championed safer Wi-Fi across Estonia since 2004. We encourage organisations to maintain their networks, award orange badges to secure hotspots, and keep a database of verified and pending Wi-Fi areas.

Why audit and maintain networks?

In public networks it is critical that strangers cannot reach information that belongs to you. Networks must be configured to the standard and the venue must comply with regulations.

  • Data security

Unauthorized people cannot access your information.

  • Fair bandwidth

Internet speed is shared fairly between all visitors.

  • Isolation

Visitors cannot see other users or devices on the network.

  • Responsibility

Every visitor accepts responsibility when entering the network.
